Madhuri Dixit:-Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun remains a timeless classic in Hindi cinema. Even today, fans continue to cherish its soulful songs, heartwarming story, and the magical chemistry between Prem and Nisha. Recently, director Sooraj R. Barjatya reflected on the film’s journey on Indian Idol, revealing some intriguing behind the scenes details. Surprisingly he shared that Madhuri Dixit was not the original choice for the role of Nisha he had initially considered Karisma Kapoor for the character.

Karisma Kapoor Was Barjatya’s First Choice

Yes, you heard it right! After watching Karisma Kapoor’s performance in Prem Qaidi, Sooraj R. Barjatya was deeply impressed and seriously considered casting her in Hum Aapke Hain Koun. On his way home, he even discussed it with his father, saying, “She has immense talent. We are still in the writing phase of Hum Aapke Hain Koun, and we need to find the right actress for Nisha.”

Why Karisma Kapoor Was Rejected

However, Rajkumar Barjatya had his reservations, believing that Karisma was too young for the role. He expressed concerns about her ability to convincingly portray a character who had to accept Mohnish Bahl’s children on-screen, considering it a significant responsibility. He remarked, “Let’s choose someone who can carry that weight on her shoulders.”

Madhuri Dixit’s Iconic Performance

Rajkumar Barjatya’s Concern Over Karisma’s Age

However, Sooraj Barjatya’s father, Rajkumar Barjatya, had reservations about casting Karisma Kapoor. He believed she was too young for the role and might struggle with the responsibility of portraying a character who had to accept Mohnish Bahl’s children as her own on screen. Expressing his concerns, he advised, “Let’s take someone who can carry that weight on her shoulders.”
