I told the writers, ‘Let’s forget everything from the first season block out the success, the memes, the iconic dialogues, and the popular characters. It felt like we were starting fresh, writing a new show with just a few characters who made it through, embarking on a whole new journey.
Challenges Due to COVID and Other Projects
The decision to make another season was difficult primarily due to the COVID pandemic. During that time all three key individuals had moved on to work on their individual projects: Sharma with Kohrra, Ahlawat with projects like An Action Hero, The Broken News, Jaane Jaan, and Maharaj, and Dhaware with School of Lies and Three of Us, which also stars Ahlawat.
No Commercial Factors Behind the Decision
Sharma made it clear that commercial factors were never the driving force behind creating Paatal Lok 2. We knew it wasn’t about riding on the success of the first season. The desire to continue was there even before the first season was released and became popular. It was always a shared ambition among Jaideep, Avinash, myself, and the entire team, including all the HODs, Sharma explained.

Nostalgia and Personal Reflection
Sharma expressed a personal sentiment behind his work, saying, I wanted my work to bring me back to the places I visited in my childhood, allowing me to view the people and characters through the lens of someone who once knew them, but has since moved on.
